Having watched the film, and found our inspiration, the evening of the event at last had come. We all arrived at Rob's for the pre-show make-up (and Dutch courage) session, awaiting with 'antici . . . pation', to see what wild and wonderful outfits our fellow club members had come up with. It turned out there were a couple of Frank n Furters, several maids (handy, when you want topping up, oo er), and, er, some other assorted freaks, who defied classification. Our slap applied, taxi's whisked us off to the planet Transylvania (aka Grand Opera House) for an evening of fun and freakiness. Upon arrival, we did notice a small number of oddly dressed people in the audience - the rest, having exchanged their street clothes for various permutations of drag, fetish and lingerie, in the true spirit of the event. The show itself was a great laugh, slick and ROCKIN'!
Afterwards, we adjourned, across the road, to Plonkers, where we were just more of those freaky people they had been putting up with all week, thus not raising even an eyebrow from the bar staff. It was then back to Rob's for a soiree involving doing the splits, and picking up an ever-diminishing cardboard box with one's teeth. Looking back on it all, it was not such a scary experience dressing up after all. It just requires the courage of one's convictions (and a love of silky things and confinement). To anyone considering trying it, I say, don't be put off by anyone else's opinion of such behaviour, and if they make fun, always think:
'Sticks and stones may break my bones,
'But whips and chains excite me.'
