Sunday Stroll and Lunch

The weather was kind on the first walk of the year so Roger and Martin's adventure to the wilds of Bishopthorpe composed 8 IVCers. As always Martin and Roger had planned the route carefully and come prepared for any situation (well they must have had something in those rucksacks). Starting at Clifford's Tower it was down to the Millennium Bridge to meet Julie and then we took the path over the racecourse before a tea break near the A64. Martin kindly brought a packet of Breakaways (don't think that qualifies for an event subsidy Martin). Refreshed we decided to take the scenic and slightly longer route via the new college before joining the Selby cycle route for the final push into Bishopthorpe.

Once in Bishopthorpe we chose the Marcia for lunch. How the place has changed since the IVC attended the fireworks in 2006. It has been refurbished and seems to be the place to take one's elderly relatives. Paul thought it might do a roaring trade in post crematorium teas, and I think a few of our fellow diners were checking it out in anticipation. But we IVCers weren't a wake, so a fun time was had by all. Most partook in the traditional Sunday lunch which looked good at £7.50. As always nobody seemed willing to devour the final roastie despite the arduous return trip ahead. No buses back for us!

Turning left out of the Marcia and past the church we ventured off the path and onto some green stuff for the trip along the river back into York. A very pleasant way to spend a few hours on a Sunday. So thanks to Roger and Martin. Hopefully the first of many walks in 2008.
