Club Nights and Lunches

York IVC organise two Club Nights a month and additionally a Club Lunch. Club Nights are busy events to which a lot of members will go to and are an excellent opportunity to meet a broad cross-section of our members. At each Club Night there are two "meeters and greeters" who are there to look out for potential members and make them feel welcome. We know that it can be daunting to come along for the first time so if you wish you can call one of the meeter and greeters beforehand and arrange to meet them outside the venue, or just call the meeter and greeter to find out exactly where our group is located at the venue. At least one of the meeters and greeters will be a Committee member so you can see what they look like from this web site.

Sometimes we organise a meal out before a Club Night, which we would encourage you to go along to if there is one. Call the Membership Secretary for Potential Members for details. Otherwise Club Nights always start at 8pm. Arriving at 8pm gives you a chance to come along before it gets busy - the general membership arrive from 8.30pm.

We strongly advise you contact the Membership Secretary for Potential Members before coming along the but you can just turn up. The Membership Secretary can tell you the phone numbers of the meeters and greeters.

Club Nights are always on the first and third Thursdays of the month and you can see where they are in the top-right box on our web site and in our events diary where club events are in bold type.

The Club Lunch is usually on a Saturday afternoon and is at a different restaurant or eatery each time. It will always be organised by a Committee member. The Club Lunch is quieter than Club Nights and great if you're out in York shopping.

At the moment we use two city-centre York pubs for our Club Nights:

Tap and Spile

From Thursday 7th August 2008 we will be going to the Tap & Spile on a regular basis in place of the Ackhorne.

The Tap and Spile is located at 29 Monkgate which is very near Monkgate Bar. It's a very friendly and cosy pub inside and serves a wide selection of drinks including real ale. It's traditional that chips and sandwiches are provided by the Club at this event.

Ye Olde Starre Inne

Ye Olde Starre Inne is located in the centre of town on Stonegate and can be easily found because there is a permanent banner spanning the street with its name. We're not always in the same area in this pub and there are a number of rooms and outdoor areas which are not always obvious. For this reason it's especially important you call one of the meeter and greeters on the night. Again a wide selection of drinks are on offer including real ales and during summer there are outdoor areas which are very pleasant indeed.
