Where did you hear of us?

Applying for joint membership? Both interested parties should complete this form separately and the Membership Secretary will be able to join your membership records together. Joint membership is available to any two people living at the same address.

What happens next?

The Potential Membership Secretary will be in touch by email and send you:

You will then be able to enjoy temporary membership until the end of the month. If you apply late in the month we will extend your trial until the end of the following month.

You will need to print out the application form yourself. If you're unable to do this, just reply to the email and request one is sent to you by post.

We recommend you come along to our New Members' Night or Club Night as one of your first events or the Club Lunch if you prefer something quieter as an easy introduction to the York IVC.

If you like York IVC or think you want to find out more and would like to continue your trial you can do so for a further three months at a cost of:

We will then send you three more of our monthly bulletins, in which time we hope that you will take full advantage of the wide variety of events York IVC club has to offer. In the case of joint members we send you just one bulletin between you which is why we require that joint members live at the same address.

York IVC hopes that potential members make the effort to find out if the Club is for them and get to know some of our members during their trial period. For these reasons, to make an application for membership, you must go along to at least three events. Take your application form along to these events and ask a committee member or the event host, (if no committee member is present) to sign it for you. If your application is a joint application, both of you must fulfil this condition.

Once you've gone along to the three required events, you can apply for full membership at any time during your trial. Simply send your completed form along with your first year's membership fee to the Potential Membership Secretary. Details of how to do this will be in your membership pack.

The committee will consider your application at the next Committee Meeting; these are held monthly and the vast majority of applications are successful. However the York IVC Committee reserves the right to refuse any membership application without being required to offer an explanation for such refusal. In the event of refusal of membership, any membership monies or cheques submitted will be returned to the sender.

If you get to the end of your trial and you haven't got three signatures on your form, you can complete your form by coming along to our monthly Club Night, details of which are publicly available on this web site on the events page. Alternatively you can extend your membership for three months as described above if you haven't taken this option already.

It's that easy and the fun begins!

Note: a small number of events are held at members' homes and for these the host can decide not to allow potential members to attend so please contact the host first. We have this rule to protect our existing membership. Other than this the Club requires that all events be open to all members and potential members, except where numbers are limited and all places are taken or a deadline set by the host has been missed.

Conditions and benefits of membership

The club is run for our members by our members, therefore organising events contributes to the Club's success and the more you more you put in, the more you get out!

Once you become a member you will be required to organise a minimum of two events per year, either on your own or with another member and the details be included in the monthly published bulletin. Talk to the Events Co-ordinator to find out more.

There is also an email membership list that you can subscribe to once you join the club. This enables you to find out about last minute events, updates and enables you to promote your own events. You will also be able to access the members' area of the web site.

Tips on attending events

We appreciate attending an event for the very first time may be a bit daunting. That's why we organise a club night (pub nights) and club lunch once a month, which are great places to start as these attract a number of new faces. There are also a couple of members who are available to meet new faces outside the venue if you wish - just contact the host. However, you don't need to wait for a club night, as you can attend any event at any time to suit you!

For events that require pre-booking or transport arrangements please give the hosts plenty of notice. That way, if you are a bit late or are meeting in a busy place, they know to look out for you and you won't be disappointed.
