York IVC is a well established, successful social club which has been running since 1998. The club was founded by a few friends in York, who felt there was a need for a new general social club in York. One of the founders had previously been a member of an IVC in another city and so York IVC was founded and became affiliated to the Association of Inter-Varsity Clubs (AIVC).
The club has grown consistently over the years and now has around 135 members. Most of the founders are still members.
Our members span a wide age range from early 20s through to early 50s, combining a mix of singles and couples. The majority of members are in their late 20s to early 40s and most new members that join are under 40.
We are a non-profit making organisation with no political, racial or religious affiliations. All members of the committee are members themselves and everyone works on a volunteer basis.
The first IVC was founded in 1947 by a group of Cambridge undergraduates who wanted to continue socialising during the holidays and after leaving university. Since then IVC groups have sprung up in most major cities in the UK and there are around 50 branches today!
